Avon Dassett Local History Group’s year-long WWI Project: The Extraordinary and the Everyday: a Year in the Life of a Rural Community 1914-5 was launched with an exhibition at St John the Baptist Church yesterday.
The event was well attended by villagers and some visitors from further afield. The exhibition provided a taster both of the military experiences of some Avon Dassett men and of everyday life in 1914.
Some villagers brought artefacts including letters, medals, postcards and photographs to display and these will be captured digitally during the project and added to the blog to provide information on current residents’ connections with the Great War.
Follow the Project Blog to get regular updates on events in Avon Dassett during this momentous year.
The event also saw the launch of the brand new village website and many positive comments were received regarding the upgrade.
