In the UK we throw away a massive 26 million tonnes of rubbish every year.
The rubbish collected from your grey bin is mainly buried in local landfill sites and some is also sent to the ‘energy from Waste’ facility in Coventry.
However a lot of it isn’t really rubbish at all and an average of 19.4 percent of Warwickshire’s waste could be composted at home.
Want to give composting a go?
Warwickshire County Council are looking for households to get composting at home by taking up the offer of a £5 compost bin. All we ask from you is your commitment to attend a short 45 minute workshop where you will be shown how to get started with your new bin.
Workshop dates are as follows:
- 7th July, 6pm, Bedworth Civic Centre, Bedworth
- 8th July, 6pm, Trinity Parish Centre, Stratford
- 14th July, 6pm, Barrack Street, Warwick
- 19th July, 10am, Rugby Library, Rugby
To book a place on a workshop simply contact the Waste Management Team by sending an e-mail with your name, address and contact telephone number to waste@warwickshire.gov.uk or telephone 01926 412593. A payment of £5 is required at the time of booking to secure your place.
If you would prefer not to attend a workshop, 330 litre compost bins can be purchased for just £10 each, up to a maximum of two bins from the Re-use shop at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Terms and conditions apply: Offer open to Warwickshire residents only and is subject to availability. One £5 bin per household. Additional bins can be purchased for £10 each. Contact details will be taken and used in connection with this offer.
