As part of the VE Day celebrations in the village, the local history group have compiled information on what life was like during WWII in Avon Dassett. This will be presented in the form of a newspaper with a copy for every household in the village. However, we would also like to include the experiences of the relatives of current villagers. It maybe that your grandfather served in the armed forces or a great aunt was a nurse during the Blitz.

| Local residents and businesses are being asked for their views on community safety in Warwickshire to ensure the right services are being developed to help make people feel safer and secure.
An online survey has been developed to give people across the county the chance to feed back to a range of organisations – local councils, fire and rescue, police, probation, health and third sector – who work together to address community safety through the Safer Warwickshire Partnership Board. The survey will inform the partnership board about what matters to residents and businesses in Warwickshire, both at a neighbourhood and national level. The survey will assist the Safer Warwickshire Partnership Board to better understand how crimes and incidents impact on their feelings of safety, what influences how safe they feel and how they would like to be engaged in the future. Topics covered included people’s personal experiences of crime and anti-social behaviour in their local area, as well what types of incident are most concerning. Views on the effects of hate crime and personal safety are also being sought, alongside feedback on road safety, including how safe people feel using the road networks across Warwickshire and the wider UK. Heritage & Culture Warwickshire (HCW) will be celebrating the success of the Warwickshire Bytes Project with a week of digital activities and events from 2-6 March 2020.
Warwickshire Bytes is an innovative project launched by Warwickshire County Council in 2018 to create a digital heritage for the county. It harnessed the power of volunteers to digitise significant historical records to make more of its collections available online to people the world over.
To celebrate the project coming to an end, and to showcase the project’s achievements, the Warwickshire Bytes team have created an innovative digital heritage festival, celebrating the history of Warwickshire by using archives, museum objects, and the public’s own contributions.
What’s happening festival week?
Councillor Heather Timms says: “We are really pleased with what the project has achieved, and delighted that we now have volunteers that can take forward some of the other ideas the council has had in making information of this kind available to everybody in Warwickshire and beyond!”

There have been a worrying number of local crimes reported over the past week or so:
Police patrolling overnight 29/02/2020 discovered a suspicious vehicle in the Farnborough area. Both occupants were arrested for drugs offences.
A stable yard was broken into at 0215 on 29/02/2020. All chains and padlocks were cut off the gates but MOD disturbed offenders as they were in the process of stealing a new trailer. The offenders were driving an Audi with Irish number plates. Please call 101 if you have any information relating to this.
Please be aware that between 10 and 12 February, a farmer’s sheep have been attacked by a dog in a field, which is believed to have been on a walk at the time. Two sheep have been killed, and two injured badly.

Please be aware that between 1030hrs – 1200hrs on 14/02/2020, three cars parked in the car park of UPTON HOUSE near BANBURY have been broken into via the rear window. It is unknown whether anything has been taken at this stage.

Please be aware that at some point during the night of 08/02/2020-09/02/2020, offenders unknown have attempted to force entry into the church via the main door, causing approximately £2000 worth of damage. Entry has not been gained.

Please be aware that at some point during the day, when a church at this location was open for members of the public, someone has forced open a donation tin and taken the change from within it. The exact value is unknown.

Please be aware that we have received multiple calls in relation to damage caused to the old doctors surgery on Kineton Rd, Wellesbourne, and possibly entry being gained via a side door with persons inside.
Officers attended as an immediate response but nobody was seen to be in or around the property on arrival.

A farmer’s sheep were attacked by a dog in a field, which was believed to have been on a walk at the time. Two of the farmer’s sheep were killed, and two more were badly injured in the attack.
The sheep attack occurred between Saturday February 8 and Monday February 10 on a farm near the village of Warmington.
Any one with information about the sheep attack can call police on 101 quoting incident number of 87 of February 14.
Police encourage people to remain vigilant in the area and report suspicious persons, vehicles or activity to the police on 101.
