£4,127 was raised by this year’s Dassett Country Show. £2,063.50 is split 50/50% between McMillan Cancer Support and Helen and Douglas House. The remainder is available for local projects and groups and village events.

Applications were received from the following organisations and the donations noted below were discussed:

• Fenny Compton Scouts to help with the cost of buying and replacing
  equipment for the growing troupe – £600
• The Explorers to help the with the cost of replacing tents in support of The Duke of Edinburgh Awards – £250
• Fenny Compton Church towards the cost of repairs following the theft of lead from the church roof – £600
• Avon Dassett Gardening club for speakers – £250
• Avon Dassett Charities to replace the fete field gate posts – £200

Total £1,900 with £400 in reserve.

Kieran O’Halloran, clinical director at Avonvale Veterinary Centres is urging dog owners to be ‘alert and vigilant’ to the threat of seasonal canine illness (SCI). There have been seven identified cases of SCI across Warwickshire including Southam. The exact cause of SCI is unknown but dogs become ill with vomiting, diarrhoea and lethargy within three days of being walked in woodland. It is a disease found in dogs in autumn and if untreated can be fatal.

If your dog is showing symptoms please contact your vet immediately as it can become severe very quickly and some dogs do not survive.

Many thanks to Burton Dassett Parish Council who have loaned Avon Dassett their British Legion ‘Silent Soldier‘ silhouette. This is in support of an initiative to say thank you and remember the sacrifices made during World War 1.

Avon Dassett will be holding a short Remembrance Day service to mark the centenary of the ending of WWI on 11th November 2018.

Warwickshire County Council is pleased to announce the launch of the Community Computers Scheme for 2018!

There are a total of 120 recycled laptops to give away for FREE to community groups, voluntary organisations and Town & Parish Councils, across all of Warwickshire. The laptops available are the Toshiba Z Series Ultralight Laptops.

All laptops will come with a minimum 120GB hard drive, 4GB Ram, Windows 7 Operating System, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Free Open Office software and will include Anti-virus protection software. A 3-month warranty is provided with each laptop. Groups can apply for 1 laptop and, if successful, they will receive the model mentioned above.

Who can apply?

• Locally based community or voluntary organisations. This includes Town and Parish Councils, but only for community focused projects (not for administration of the Town/Parish Council).
• Small-scale groups who have little or no IT equipment, and can show how it will be used to grow their organisation.
• Groups who do not have significant reserves or other resources

Before completing the application, you must consider the costs of running the equipment after the three-month warranty has expired, plus security, insurance, and additional software.

Conditions all applicants must agree to:

• Sign a simple receipt indemnifying the Council against any claim arising from the future use of the equipment and confirming that the Council accepts no ongoing responsibility for the condition of the equipment beyond the three-month warranty provided, or its disposal.
• To ensure validity of the three-month warranty, log-in must be completed within 3 months of receipt of the computer.
• Complete a simple report form at the end of six months, to describe the use of the equipment and its impact on their work.
• Ensure recognition of WCC in any publicity or communication relating to the equipment.
• Collect the laptop from the WCC Office in Shire Hall, Warwick.
