Dassett Show AGM

The AGM of the Dassett Country Show will be held on Thursday 12 October at 7.30 in the Reading Room in Avon Dassett.

Results from this year’s show will be presented, applications for funding for local projects and groups will be considered and the committee for next year’s show will be elected.

Road Closure

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF DASSETT ROAD, AVON DASSETT

Warwickshire County Council has made a Temporary Traffic Order closing Dassett Road, Avon Dassett from a point approximately 65 metres north west of Oxbow Farm to a point 34 metres south east of Oxbow Farm ,to vehicular traffic.

The closure is required to facilitate works for the renewal of a boundary box.

The Order will commence on 25 October 2017 and will last for a period of 18 months, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier.  However, it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 27 October 2017.

Pedestrian access to and egress from properties and land situated adjacent to the length of road to be closed will be maintained at all times. Vehicular access will be maintained where possible.

An alternative route will be signed and is available via: Dassett Road, Avon Dassett Road, Church Hill, Lower End (and vice versa).

The Council regrets any inconvenience that may be caused.  The team dealing with this Temporary Traffic Order at Warwickshire County Council is Network Management (Tel: 01926 412515).

Any enquiries relating to the works being undertaken may be directed to the Contractor dealing with this matter on behalf of Severn Trent Water, Traffix (Tel: 0800 819 9001).

Community Knitting Projects

There are two fantastic community knitting projects taking place in Warwickshire:

The Big Knitted Christmas Tree

Spend time with others to knit squares for a BIG KNITTED CHRISTMAS TREE!
Your squares will join those knitted by others to create a 17ft Community Christmas tree on display at All Saints Church, Emscote from December 2018.
Come and see what we build together!

THE TREE OF INTENT 2017
Mark your group’s intention of joining in with the BIG knitted Christmas Tree by making a Tree of Intent. Follow simple instructions we can provide and make and decorate your own tree to be on display with others at All Saints for the beginning of December 2017.

Tree’s of Intent (or A4 photo’s of your tree) need to be at All Saints Church by Thursday 24th November, 2017 to be included for display.

If your group is intending to join in with the BIG knitted Christmas tree project we’d love to know.

We can keep you up to date with information on events, Knit & Knatters, drop off points and provide instructions for the Tree of Intent and wallet size knitting instructions.

What to knit?
Instructions for knitting a 10 inch square:
Use double knit (DK) green yarn (any shade) on 4mm needles.
Cast on 40 stitches.
Garter stitch only (all rows) until work measures 10 inches (approx 70 rows). Cast off.
Instructions for more experienced knitters:
Knit (or crochet) Christmas tree decorations – all shapes and sizes.
Not too small, and no bigger than 10 inches ta ll.
Ideas for younger people:
Knit smaller squares and make different coloured pom-poms as baubles.
Final deadline for collection: Friday 26th October 2018.

Vintage Teas for Macmillan

Macmillan Coffee Morning 

I will be getting out the Vintage coffee cups again this year as part of Macmillan’s “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” event to be held in The Reading Room in Avon Dassett.

It’s on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th September from 10am to 2pm each day.

There’ll be the usual cakes/biscuits, coffee/tea/other drinks, Tombola, Books and Bric-a-Brac.

It’s free to enter, with all donations going to Macmillan, so please do stop by to support this worthy cause, whether it’s to relax and chill out with friends over a cuppa, or a quick caffeine fix on your way.  You could even call in for a take-away.

Who is eligible for a free flu vaccine?

  • The eligible groups are:
  • All people aged 65 years and over (including those becoming age 65 years by 31 March 2017);
  • people aged from 18 to less than 65 years of age with one or more of the following medical conditions:
    • chronic (long-term) respiratory disease, such as severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or bronchitis;
    • chronic heart disease, such as heart failure;
    • chronic kidney disease at stage three, four or five;
    • chronic liver disease;
    • chronic neurological disease, such as Parkinson’s disease or motor neurone disease, or learning disability;
    • diabetes;
    • a weakened immune system due to disease or treatment
    • splenic dysfunction
  • Pregnant women aged 18 or over (including those women who become pregnant during the flu season);

Public Consultation on Home-School Transport

Warwickshire County Council have started a public consultation about changes to school transport considering: unsafe walking routes; transport for children with special educational needs or disabilities; post-16 transport on medical grounds.

How can I take part in the consultation?
