A special meeting of the members was held on Wednesday week for the purpose of nominating a Guardian and Rural District Councillor for Kineton. Mr J. Fisher the present member having signified his intention of resigning. Mr J. E. Coles presided. A letter was read from Mr Parke regretting that he was unable to be present, as he should like to have strongly supported the re-election of Mr Fisher, for he had done good work. Mr Fisher had studied the interests of the inhabitants, and had worked efficiently and persistently to promote them, and with success. Mr Fisher outlined what had been done during the two years he had been in office, and noted the improvements in the housing question, the Little Kineton corner, &c. For business reasons, and also because he thought such offices should go round, he wished to resign, and he proposed that Mr J. W. Evans be nominated. This was seconded and duly carried. Mr Fisher paid tribute to the Hon. Mabel Verney’s work, especially as a Guardian. A nomination paper on her behalf was also signed. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to Mr Fisher for his work.

A special meeting of the Fenny Compton and District Horticultural Society was held in the schoolroom on Saturday evening. In the absence of Mr. A. E. Knott (president), Dr. F. V. Elkington occupied the chair. The business of the meeting was to discuss the desirability of holding the annual show in August. After discussion it was decided in view of the unsettled condition of Europe and the distress consequent on the war to abandon the show for one year. The Chairman said Mr. Knott had spoken to him on the matter and had suggested that a donation of £5 5s. be forwarded to the Warneford Hospital, Leamington from the society’s funds, for the assistance of wounded soldiers quartered there. This was adopted by the meeting.

The company of Territorials stationed at Kineton received orders on Wednesday week that they would be transferred to another part of the county on Friday. It is understood that other troops will take their place at Kineton. The company has greatly appreciated the billets at Kineton. An instance of this was a presentation of a silver erpergne and a framed photograph of the company to Mr and Mrs Edden from the 35 men billeted at the Pavilion.

At a meeting of the Kineton Flower Show Committee on Tuesday it was unanimously decided not to hold the annual flower show this year, but to offer prizes for the best cultivated allotments as usual.
