The Yew Tree is open Friday and Saturday 5-11 pm and Sunday 12-8 pm.
On Sunday there will be sparklers and mulled wine to celebrate Bonfire Night eve.
We’re looking for singers and young musicians to take part again this year. We’ll have some rehearsals in The Reading Room and circulate details and You Tube links etc if you can’t make it to all the meetings. We’ve got a few instruments to share if you haven’t got your own. The Yew Tree pub is currently open on Mondays to Saturdays, 5-11 pm and on Sundays 12-8 pm. No food is being served at present.
On Fridays and Saturdays, Happy Hour is from 5-7 pm with ale and Carling at £3.20 per pint and a glass of house wine £4.
On Sunday 4th November there will be sparklers, mulled wine and mince pies to celebrate Bonfire Night.
On Sunday 11th November join the village at the war memorial for a special Remembrance Day service commemorating especially the end of WWI, followed by drinks and an exhibition in the Yew Tree.
£4,127 was raised by this year’s Dassett Country Show. £2,063.50 is split 50/50% between McMillan Cancer Support and Helen and Douglas House. The remainder is available for local projects and groups and village events.
Applications were received from the following organisations and the donations noted below were discussed:

Kieran O’Halloran, clinical director at Avonvale Veterinary Centres is urging dog owners to be ‘alert and vigilant’ to the threat of seasonal canine illness (SCI). There have been seven identified cases of SCI across Warwickshire including Southam. The exact cause of SCI is unknown but dogs become ill with vomiting, diarrhoea and lethargy within three days of being walked in woodland. It is a disease found in dogs in autumn and if untreated can be fatal.
If your dog is showing symptoms please contact your vet immediately as it can become severe very quickly and some dogs do not survive.
Termination of Lease
The purpose of this note is to advise you of our position, following the recent action that we have taken.
The Yew Tree has not been making enough money to allow Steve to meet his commitments to the Society and other creditors. Despite Steve’s best efforts to contain costs and the financial and physical help that the Society and the community have provided, Steve’s debts have increased.
Steve sought legal opinion, and was advised to cease trading. As a result we agreed that we needed to terminate the lease.
What happens next?
The Yew Tree will not be open for business until we either find a new tenant or make arrangements for the Society to run the pub. We are in advanced negotiations with a possible replacement tenant and, in parallel, we are considering the steps that we need to take to reopen the doors. It is possible that we may have to consider the short-term option of employing a temporary manager to operate the pub.
We aim to negotiate a mutually acceptable exit plan with Steve, to save both parties the cost, the time and difficulty of a protracted period of court proceedings.
Although our overriding aim is to retain a functioning pub at the centre of the community, we recognise our duty of care to investors and we will continue to protect all of our investments. At present, the Society has a healthy bank balance and is not in danger of being unable to meet its obligations for the foreseeable future.
Further updates
We will provide further updates as and when information becomes available and once we have a date for reopening the pub. In the meantime we will endeavour to negotiate with Steve to reach an amicable settlement.
